Tonight’s final preseason game marks the last chance for around 21-25 members of the team to strut there stuff in front of head coach Jon Gruden and staff.  With rosters at 74 guys right now and a need to trim down to 53 by Saturday afternoon, this will be some guys last day in a Buccaneers uniform.  Pewter Plank takes a look at those guys here.

Random Thoughts from Final Preseason Game (that matters anyway!)

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Gameday, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

QB
The QB play looked stellar once again. NBC threw up a stat midway through the first quarter that said Bucs QB’s as a whole have led the league this preseason in QB rating. We had our first INT of the preseason thrown last night, and it was more of a great play by DE Matt Roth, then it was a bad pass by Jeff Garcia. Roth dropped back off the line as Garcia was about to throw a swing pass into the flats, and just made a spectacular play. Backup Luke McCown came in and played [...]

2nd Rounder Aaron Sears Sprains Ankle

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

The team is still awaiting word on the fate of rookie LG Aaron Sears. Already a projected starters, Sears was limping around on crutches Tuesday afternoon, and the team is still awaiting word on the severity of the injury. Dan Buenning would probably replace Sears at LG with Matt Lehr stepping in to start at C.
Editors Note- The Orlando Sentinel is reporting online that Sears is ok and that Gruden said he will only miss “a few days”

Trotter Coming to Tampa for FA Visit

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

MLB Jeremiah Trotter will visit the Bucs today.  While he would give us nice depth at our weakest linebacking position, Trotter does not appear to be a good fit for our Tampa 2 D.  Unless we have plans on converting to some more conventional 4-3 this season, Trotter’s lack of coverage ability downfielf would seem to be a detriment to us, and negate the positive influences he could make on the run d.   I also do not think the Eagles would have released him if he were healthy.

– Tonight is a true test for the O-Line. Rookie Aaron Sears, and second year linemen Davin Joseph, and Jeremy Trueblood face a stout Jaguars D-Line in tonights second preseason game.

– The Bucs held there pregame walkthrough and practice at MacDill AirForce Base here in Tampa yesterday.

– Nice brief camp review from Buccaneers.com

– Is it possible Michael Clayton doesn’t make the final roster? Martin Fennely of The Tampa Tribune takes a closer look.

– Chris Simms might share Clayton’s fate. Crazy to think that two guys who we thought would be future staples [...]

Peep the Guns

- Scroll into the 3:08 mark to see some true cannons.
Oh, it’s the deep burn! Oh, it’s so deep. I can barely lift my right arm ’cause I did so many. I don’t know if you heard me counting. I did over a thousand. You have your ubulus muscle that connects to the upper dorsinus. It’s boring, but it’s part of my life. I’m just gonna grab this shirt, if you don’t mind. Just watch out for the guns. They’ll get you.

Quote of the Day

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Bucs | COMMENTS: None Yet

“One of the things we’re going to scrutinize heavily when it’s all said and done is who can catch the ball and make the great catch,” the Bucs coach said. “Forget about the routine plays when balls are laid right in there. I’m talking about the freak catch away from your body, the ones you see on SportsCenter every Sunday night. That’s what we need here.”

- Fight and Fight Hard – Nice piece on Buccaneers.com about the intesity between the dline and the oline in camp, and the thoughts of new line coach Larry Coyer. If we can improve in these two areas this season, I find it hard to believe that we won’t be a playoff team.

Pittman Staying at FB

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Bucs | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Apparently the Michael Pittman experiment at FB is going to stick.  Good friend of Mike Alstott, sports talk show host Steve Deuming (620 WDAE) said that Alstott told him personally, that Pittman was going to stay at FB.
