Really good piece here from Gary Shelton about Jon Gruden. I have a lot of gripes with Mr Shelton and some other members of the Bay Area talking/writing heads. Namely, Gary Shelton and the infamous Gruden basher Steve Dueming are two of Gruden’s biggest detractors literally since the year after the Super Bowl. Everyone seemed to forget last year, that we had just as many injuries as we did this year, but we didn’t have the depth on our roster to make up for those losses. Was this Gruden or Bruce Allen’s fault? To me, no. To many other people in the Bay Area, yes. They blamed Gruden for handing out “fat’ contracts to Todd Steussie, Charlie Garner, and a few other vets. They blamed Gruden and Allen for the cap hell that Rich McKay left us vulnerable to. Above all else, they questioned the coaching of a man, who 3 years in a row, players have voted one of the best play callers in the league. It is funny how quickly the talking heads will change there tune once some W’s arrive. Me, I have been a staunch supporter of Gruden from Day 1. He did not win with Tony Dungy’s team, it was not his fault the Glazers’ gave up so many picks to get him, and it was not his fault that Rich McKay was a shit manager of the salary cap. He finally has a team of his guys, and look at the product that is being produced because of it. Kudos Chuckie!!!!
