Bucs
Jeff Garcia - After multiple seasons of Head Coach Jon Gruden pursuing Jeff Garcia, we can see why he was so enamored with him. Garcia is 6th in the league with a 94.6 rating, behind 5 guys who are headed to the Pro Bowl. He has been heady, and efficient all year long, which is exactly what Gruden is looking for. Besides the Jacksonville Jaguars game in Week 8, Garcia has not cost us one game. He has 6 games with over a 100 Qb rating. Jeff missed a few games (weeks 12-14) after taking a kidney shot, and there was some speculation that he might be a little more injured than the Bucs were letting on. He came back strong in weeks 15 and 16 with wins against the Falcons and a loss vs the 49′ers (although he played only 1.5 quarters). Kind of amazing that through 13 games he has only 4 interceptions, 3 of which came in the aforementioned Jags game. He is effective in the pocket as well as moving outside the pocket to make throws. He has also added a QB rushing dimension to our team with 35 rushes for 115 yards. When the Bucs have been behind by 1-8 points, Garcia is 42 of 50 for 387 yards and a 125 QB rating, showing the obvious ability to come from behind and lead crucial drives.
NY Giants
Eli Manning – While Jeff Garcia may be the model of consistency, while not showing many flashes of true domination, Eli Manning is the exact opposite. It is obvious that he has the skills to be an elite level QB, but at this point in his career, he is far away from being considered anything close to elite. Eli finished 27th in the league in QB rating with a 70.6. He is next to the likes of Cleo Lemon, Tavaris Jackson, Rex Grossman, and Brian Griese, all guys who might not even be employed by their current teams next season. He has had 5 games with more interceptions than TD’s thrown, and 3 more with equal TD’s to INT’s thrown. Outside of the Dallas Cowboys game in Week 1, he has had only one other game with a 100 QB rating (100.7). On top of the fact that he has thrown way too many interceptions, he has also fumbled the ball a whopping 12 times and lost 7 of them. In all, Manning has accounted for 26 turnovers in 15 games, or 1.7 TO’s a game. Trying to look at his situational stats is hard as well. He has his best QB ratings when the Giants are down by more than 8 points, but that is mostly because they are throwing the ball so much then, and defenses are playing a little softer, so the chances for a higher QB rating then are large. In the last two minutes of either half, he is 28 for 56 with 5 INT’s to 2 TD’s.
