Running Backs Breakdown – Bucs vs. Giants

Bucs

Ernest Graham (nfl.com)Ernest Graham – One of the feel good stories of the year, Ernest Graham took over the starting RB duties after the injuries to Caddilac Williams and Michael Pittman. He has 222 carries for 898 yards in essentially 12 weeks of work. He is 2nd in the NFC with 10 Td’s despite his limited time. He set a Buccaneers record with a TD in six straight weeks of play. Graham has shown a nice penchant for running through arm tackles. He has only fumbled the ball 1 time all season, and it was in week 1, before he was even starting.

BJ Askew (nfl.com)BJ Askew – Most Bucs fans were curious as to why we made a play for a FB in free agency, but after the injury to Mike Alstott, it was apparent why. In my opinion, Askew was not brough in to be a backup to Alstott though, as he brings a lot more to the table than the A-Train. He is a far superior blocker to Train, and to me, just as capable of a receiver. He might not be able to run through 7 guys every time he attempts a run, but Askew has shown the ability to run people over as well.

Giants

Brandon Jacobs (nfl.com)Brandon Jacobs – Jacobs when healthy has shown to be one of the NFC’s most feared RB’s. He has run for 942 yards on 187 carries for a 5.0 avg per run. He is going to be a key for the Bucs, as we have already chronicled the struggles that Eli Manning has had this season. In weeks 15 and 16 he ran for 130 and 145 yards respectively. He is running well at the right time of the year. He has shown that he has some fumbling issues with 5 fumbles for 4 lost in 10 games, or half a fumble a game. Jacobs is not much of a receiving threat out of the backfield (this is right after he catches a TD vs the Pats!) so I don’t think the Bucs will have to key in on that part of his game.
