Kevin Carter Coming Back?

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

Adam Mosley of Espn.com’s NFL Hashmarks, is reporting that the Bucs are trying to resign DE Kevin Carter at a cheaper rate than the 5.8 cap number he would have carried into this season.  Personally, I would love for this to happen.  He is a much better option than Marquest Douglas, Jimmy Wilkerson, or even Justin Smith for that matter.  He is solid in run D and the pass rush and fit in perfectly with our team last season.  Get it done Bruce.

List of Potential Targets

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

Multiple media outlets are reporting the same list of players that will come visit the Bucs in the next 3 days, so we will report the same.

DE – Marques Douglas – Had 72 tackles last year and replicates a lot of the things that Greg Spires used to do for us on run D

RB – Mewelde Moore – Obviously fell out of favor with the Childress regime as he had only 26 touches last season…Would be a perfect scat back fit for us though

DE – Jimmy Wilkerson – Another guy that we might be looking at to replicate some Spireesque [...]

Jeff Faine A Buc

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Breaking News | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Bucs wasted no time filling a hole on the team, and spending some of that fat wad of paper they had stacked up at One Buc Place.  According to the Bucs Beat, and PFT, the Bucs have just made free agent center Jeff Faine the highest paid center in the NFL.  Center was a position of dire need after opting to not resign John Wade.  LG Dan Buenning was supposed to get a chance to try and play C last season, but has spend the majority of his NFL career on the injury list as opposed to the field.  [...]

The Best Kind of Problem

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

Mike Florio, the ever increasingly popular creator of Profootballtalk.com, writes in an article for SportingNews.com that the Bucs must spend 28 million dollars to reach the salary floor.   They are not neccesarily required to spend that on free agents, but can also use that money to restructure the contracts of some our current roster players.  Kudos to Bruce Allen and the front office for fixing all the salary cap blunders that previous GM Rich McKay left for the new regime.  Allen has consistently said we will pursue any free agent who can help our team.

Asante Samuel A Buccaneer?

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

In one of those strange twists that can only happen in the NFL offseason, free agent CB Asante Samuel‘s agent is openly pining for the Bucs to make an offer.

“Tampa Bay is a situation that makes sense,” said Alonzo Shavers, Samuel’s agent. “Tampa Bay is definitely worth considering. It was an organization that was in the Super Bowl not too long ago. It is an organization Asante wants to play for. It’s definitely something that makes perfect sense for everybody.”

Shaver also claimed the Tampa Bay was high on a very short list of teams they are interested in.

Everyone might automatically [...]

Javon Walker On Bucs Radar?

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

Pewter Report is reporting that the Denver Broncos are shopping WR Javon Walker, and contacted the Bucs in order to gauge their interest in the disgruntled WR.

Walker would seemingly be a great fit in our offense.  He has the size, the route running acumen, and the experience in similar offenses to make a fairly easy transition to our team.  He played 4 seasons in Green Bay before forcing a trade to Denver in 2006 after a knee injury limited him to one game in 2005.  He was hobbled almost all of last season with another knee injury.  The injuries scare the [...]

Brian Kelly Buys His Way to Free Agency

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brian Kelly excercised an option in his contract, paying the Bucs 453k to be able to put himself out on the free agent market.

At one point, Kelly was the only solid man to man coverage CB this team had. The last few seasons though, fans and coaches have gotten used to not seeing much of Kelly, as injuries (including the dreaded foot injury for corners) have kept him out of the lineup more often that he has been in it.
