So Much For Jared Allen

Posted by: Dustin Staggers

Jared Allen (cnn.net)The possibility of the Bucs trading for DE Jared Allen has gone down the tubes with the Vikings grossly overpaying the Chiefs for the right to sign him to an extension.  The Vikings agreed to trade a 1st round pick and two 3rd round picks as well as swapping picks with the Chiefs in the 5th round.  The Vikings then agreed to give Allen a six-year, $74 million deal, with $31 million in guaranteed money.

The Bucs might not have balked at the contract that was eventually given to him, but the compensation surely was too rich for our blood.   While we may have 87 players under contract, giving up 3 picks in the top 100 is very rich.

Good for the Bucs for not getting into a bidding war. Minnesota probably overpaid ( financially & football-wise ) but only time will tell. The Redskins once gave up two #1s for Wilbur Marshall & that worked out well for them.
