DE Greg White Wants Out?

The Tampa Tribune is reporting that Buccaneers DE Greg White will ask to be traded if he is not offered a contract “today”.  I would imagine that the Bucs flirtation with Jared Allen, the resigning of Kevin Carter, and the offseason additions of Marques Douglas, and Jimmy Wilkerson has Mr. White feeling a tad unappreciated.

Jack Bechta, White’s agent stated “that White enjoyed being in Tampa Bay and playing for Bucs coach Jon Gruden“.

White is an exclusive rights free agent, meaning he can not negotiate with other teams.

While he may have some solid value in the trade market, it probably is not in the best interest of the Bucs to move him right now.  Gruden and Monte have continually emphasized the need to improve the pass rush. Eliminating one of last years surprises at the position would seemingly be less than ideal.

This whole deal is curious. I have no idea why the Bucs havent given White a decent raise & locked him into an extension. It’s not like he’s looking for $5M p.a.. There may be something going on under the surface.
