“There Is No Quarterback Controversy”

There has been a lot of speculation this week among talking heads and fans alike that it might be the last game for Brian Griese as the starter.  Jeff Garcia took a few more reps this week with the first team, and everyone assumed that meant that Griese was out and Garcia was back in.  Head Coach Jon Gruden made a few comments yesterday trying to set this controversy straight.

“It was the same. We don’t have any quarterback controversy. Griese took all the reps,” said Gruden. “Jeff took a little bit. Luke [McCown] took his turn, but Griese is the starter…We don’t have any quarterback controversy at all. Jeff is getting well and we are excited about that.”

I think for anyone who actually watched either of the past two games, three of the six interceptions were caused by faulty hands on the receivers end.   That still leaves three picks in two games, which Griese must be able to improve on, but the ability to open the playbook up a little more with Griese is very evident if you actually watch the games.  Griese has the arm to make more throws than Garcia, point blank.  I look forward to seeing Brian vs his old team tommorow.
