The most important issue heading into this weeks game, is the injuries that are continuing to pile up for the Buccaneers.
Jovan Haye and Chris Hovan both particapated fully in practice. After giving up 13,000 yards rushing the last two games, this is an important development. Although both guys are not big names in the NFL world, they are both very effective players, as evidenced by the ass kickings we’ve received on the ground the two weeks they have been out.
Gaines Adams and Greg White were limited in practice. The participation by Hovan and Haye is almost negated by the lack of practice from our starting defensive ends. The only caveat here, I’m digging deep, is that if Kevin Carter and Jimmy Wilkerson were forced to start at the end spots with Gaines and Stylez G out of the lineup, as long as Hovan and Haye are back, our run defense should be better than it is when we have our normal starters in.
Derrick Brooks and Josh Bidwell did not participate in practice yesterday, but both are expected to play on Sunday. DB has a rib injury, and Bidwell was sick.
Most importantly, Jeff Garcia was a limited participant in practice yesterday, but was expected to play in Sundays game. Anyone who watched Brian “Drop Back” Griese last Sunday, will be happy to be hear Garcia is back. Holding of the ball and continuing to drop back as the pocket was collapsing was the main reason for our loss on Sunday.
Jeff Garcia on Sundays game vs the Falcons – “I think for myself, just watching this past Sunday and how difficult that was an frustrating for myself, and not to take anything away from the guys who stepped in because Brian (Griese) did what he had to do, but for me, it was just very difficult to watch and I don’t want to be in that situation again. I want to do whatever I can to help this team and hopefully I am that guy who can do this.”
Jeff Garcia on this Sundays game vs the Chargers – “I’m going to practice, so I plan on being ready for Sunday,” Garcia said. “I’m improved. I feel like I can do more. I feel like I’ll have a better feel when I’m at practice today, but I went through all the (walk-through) pracrtice reps, so I know I’m headed in the right direction.”
