The Patriots today sent 3600 yard passer Matt Cassel as well as OLB Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2nd round pick (34). I have to admit, I’m a little jealous of the deal from my own teams standpoint, and love it for the Chiefs. Regardless of the knocks people want to put on Cassel because of his lack of playing time, or because of what he accomplished last year while throwing to Randy Moss and Wes Welker, the fact still remains that he threw for 3600 yards and 21 TD’s. Those are hard numbers to ignore, [...]

Bill Belichek Is Not Heartless
It is being reported by multiple media outlets at this point that former Cleveland Browns TE Kellen Winslow has been traded to the Buccaneers for undisclosed draft picks. I have checked multiple sources to find out what round pick we have moved, but no outlets are reporting a year or a round for the pick. At this point in his career, 2008 Bucs starter Alex Smith has been underwhelming at best, and Winslow certainly gives us a legitimate receiving option and threat to score. The guy is a “soldier” and a headcase, and on a team that now has very [...]
I cant believe what transpired today.
I could see if we were running into a salary cap issue or if we had the makings of a championship team but needed that one extra piece to the puzzle and needed to get younger to do so. I could understand then…but with neither of those being the case, how do you cut a legend? It just doesnt seem right.
So his play has declined, yes. But what kind of intangibles was he able to bring to every game, every practice, every team meeting? Those things cannot be measured. So he missed a few tackles [...]
Bucs Clean House
Two days before the start of free agency, and already with the 2nd most amount of cap money, the Bucs released 5 staples of our old regime. Reports from all the major sporting outlets, are saying the Bucs have released Derrick Brooks, Joey Galloway, Ike Hilliard, Warrick Dunn and Cato June.
I was expecting a few of these guys to be released, especially due to their age. I think there is a strong possibility that 4 of the 5 guys that were released could retire. Derrick Brooks, Joey Galloway, Ike Hilliard and Warrick Dunn all could retire. Dunn and [...]
What If Andre Smith Did Fall?
While my partner in crime Darkwing has been clamoring for the Bucs to lock up restricted free agent Donald Penn to a long term deal, one that he has been openly seeking the last few weeks (a giant long term deal) there is a situation that caused a lot of controversy this week at the NFL Scouting Combine that could work out in the favor of many teams who are seeking help at the coveted position of left tackle.
Left Tackle Andre Smith, who not only two weeks ago was pretty much the consensus number one pick for the Lions if [...]
Please Sign Donald Penn
The name is not as sexy as Albert Haynesworth, Julius Peppers, Antonio Bryant, TJ Houshmanzadeh, or some of the other potential Free Agents, but please sign Donald Penn.
Undrafted in 2006, he has started 28 games the last two years at Left Tackle..the 2nd most important position in football. Constantly left out on an island, the guy has held his own quite nicely. His footwork seems to be his best asset.
Left tackles dont grow on trees, we lucked into one here…now, sign him. My question mark on this teams O-Line haslways been the other tackle spot in Trueblood. He has the intensity I love [...]
Pat Yasinskas Gets To Chatting
ESPN NFC South Blogger Pat Yasinskas has an online chat in which he touches on a variety of topics including:
– Thinking the Bucs will make a big push for Albert Haynesworth
– He makes it seem like TJ Houshmanzadeh is a strong possibility to be opposite Antonio Bryant this year. (Not sure i can agree with that one, it would take some cash to get him here and i just cant justify giving two WRs big money on the same team. How often has that worked out? And dont say Fitz and Boldin because Anquan isn’t being paid)
– Assures we will have [...]
Antonio Bryant Tagged
Antonio Bryant has been tagged by the Buccaneers, meaning that when he signs the tender he will be guaranteed just under $10 million for next season. Not bad for a guy who was out the league just the year prior.
However, it remains to be seen how this move his received by Bryant and his agent. Some players do not like being applied the Franchise Tag as it is good for only one year and restricts them obtaining a lucrative long term deal, if available.
If any team signs Bryant, we would be eligible for two first round draft picks. Thats not [...]
Pewter Plank’s Round 2 Mock
Note: I wrote up my first round mock draft a few weeks ago and there are already some changes I would likely make to it, but I will wait till the combine to do a re-do, so this mock will be a follow up to that original first round. Without further adieu…
33. Detroit DJ Moore CB Vanderbilt – The Lions secondary may be their worst unit, and boy is that saying something. After releasing Leigh Bodden and Dwight Smith they are really thin in the defensive backfield. Moore is an excellent athlete and a very talented football [...]
Congratulations Dustin!
With the offseason in full force, our main blogger Dustin Staggers took advantage of his “down time” and decided to get married. The timing was hardly a coincidence. Props to my man for getting married the day after Valentines Day and thus killing two birds with one stone for the rest of their lives. We can all learn a lot from him.
Here are some of the quick hit highlights:
– The ceremony itself was everything you could have asked for, and by that I mean short and to the point. Very nicely done. The best part was when asked, “Do you [...]
