TAMPA – For those of you keeping score at home, it was a fifth-round pick in next year’s draft that the Bucs got back from the Patriots in the Alex Smith trade.

Smith was deemed expendable after the Bucs traded for tight end Kellen Winslow and re-signed tight end Jerramy Stevens.

The Bucs gave up a second-round pick in this year’s draft and a fifth next year for Winslow. They now have the fifth back.

The Bucs signed TE Ryan Purvis. I saw him play on TV a couple times in 2007 w/ Matt Ryan. He was pretty impressive in the short-to-medium routes, & watched the ball into his hands very well. Rated a 7th-rounder by "Lindy's" & The War Room, & a 4th or 5th by "USA Today." He may make the PS methinks.

Another player who showed promise early but never developed. He is a "block decent, catch OK" old-fashioned TE & the Pats will find uses for him.
My guess is he brought a 6, maybe moving to a 5, depending on playing time.
