Bucs Sign Illinois Tackle Xavier Fulton

Fifth round selection Xavier Fulton, a T out of the University of Illinois is the first Buccaneer of the 2009 Buccaneers draft class to sign a deal.

Fulton’s signing early might work in his favor.  With the possibility still looming that Aaron Sears is not medically cleared to play, and Jeremy Zuttah therefore taking over his spot, the backup Tackle positions on both sides would seemingly be wide open for competition.  Couple that with the regression from Jeremy Trueblood last year, and there is a possibility that Fulton could even be battling for the RT spot.  He drew only two penalties for the Illini last year on 393 pass plays, and amazingly only allowed two QB pressures.

More than likely he will backup both T spots in 09.

I got the “Pro Football Weekly Preview” (buy it every year, tho it is not as good as it used to be), & they seem to think this guy is a viable back-up at T:

    79 Alabi, Anthony T ACT 6’5″ 315 2/16/1981 3 Texas Christian

I am a Sgt. Schultz on this one. But, who knew about Penn at this time three years ago??

I agree Mike. There are a lot of guys at the tackle spots who go under the radar on draft day or guys who don’t even get drafted who make an impact in this league. Hell, Jason Peters was drafted as a damned TE and just got the Bills a bunch of picks and made a shitton of money from the Eagles.

There was a TE converted to LT who starred for the Steelers 30 years ago. Was it Cunningham?? I will try to dig it up; the old brain is nowhere near as efficient nowadays….

No, he stuck at TE. Darn stupid brain……..
