With 25 spots remaining on the roster after the Offensive and Special Teams selection and 36 players vying for those spots, competition should be high on the defensive side of the ball in camp. Add in the fact that there are about 20 locks to make the team and the competition is even stronger.
DL – Gaines Adams, Chris Bradwell, Jarrett Buie, Rashad Duncan, Louis Holmes, Chris Hovan, Roy Miller, Dre Moore, Kyle Moore, Greg Peterson, Ryan Sims, Stylez G White, Jimmy Wilkerson
Gaines, Hovan, Roy Miller, Kyle Moore, Ryan Sims, Stylez G White and Jimmy Wilkerson are locks in my opinion. [...]
Archive for July, 2009
This is going to be a short one, because I think this is a simple 3 man solely special teams roster.
P – Josh Bidwell
Only one P on the roster, and only one needed. Bidwell is great at inside the 20 punts, and is a key cog in our battle of field position.
LS – Andrew Economos
Once again, the only Long Snapper on the roster and the only one we need. Economos is great at his one and only job.
K – Matt Bryant, Mike Nugent
This should be one of the more interesting battles during camp. Nugent is the superior kickoff guy and [...]
Late Thursday night, the Buccaneers inked the last unsigned player of their 2009 NFL Draft Class, QB Josh Freeman. He signed the deal around midnight Thursday according to John Clayton of ESPN.com. The contract includes 10.245 of gauranteed money and hsa a total value and length of five years and 36 million dollars.
It was important for Freeman to get his contract finished before todays opening day of practice, as he has a chance to be the Bucs starting QB if he has a solid training camp. Most reports from mini camps over the summer stated that neither Luke [...]
With Training Camp set to being Saturday night at Raymond James Stadium (I will be there) and continue at the gorgeous One Buc Place in Tampa (will be at all afternoon sessions) I figured it was time for the Pewter Plank Annual Roster Prediction. This is the third straight year we have done this at the Pewter Plank and I encourage everyone to leave comments. Defense and Special Teams will be up tommorow.
Without further ado…
QB – Luke McCown, Byron Leftwich, Josh Freeman, Josh Johnson
This position is all very dependent on the progress that rookie QB Josh Freeman makes in camp. [...]
Ryan Nece Pays It Forward
WTSP, Tampa Bays CBS Affiliate, forwarded us along a real nice story about former Bucs LB Ryan Nece. During the time of the NFL calendar when there isn’t much going on in terms of football, many players are doing things to help out the community.
Nece was always known as a real Tony Dungy type of player as far as community involvement was concerned, and his latest act shows why. Last month, Nece gathered 40 people from around the Bay Area, handed them envelopes with $55 in them, and told them to “Pay It Forward.” For those who haven’t seen the [...]
The Buccaneers came to terms this morning with third round draft pick Roy Miller, a defensive tackle from the University of Texas.
According to Profootballtalk.com, Miller’s contract included a $770,000 signing bonus as well as a base value worth $2.52 million, which includes minimum base salaries of $310,000, $395,000, $480,000 and $565,000. They also reported that the contract could be boosted significantly by a fourth year escalator clause.
In my guestimation, Miller has a chance to start next season, and that escalator clause might be intended to motivate a young man to perform at a max level.
Also of note, the Buccaneers announced that [...]
One of my favorite parts of The FanSided Network is the structure of each individual site. No matter whether you are reading about Nascar on StockCarSpin 0r about Lebron James on KingJamesGospel the formats of every page are the same. They are crisp and you can find the same information (obviously with different content) on the same place on every page.
I’ve always felt that the proffesional sports leagues should adopt a similar campaign with their own team websites. As it stands now, every team site is much different than the rest. Some of them are quite nice and visually pleasing, [...]
With the first year of Buccaneers training camp being back in the Tampa Bay area in a long time, I must say, I’m quite excited. Not only does it give more fans a chance to come out and see the Bucs, it gives more fans a chance to see the gorgeous new facility we have.

The Links
Buc ‘Em has a short piece on all the Bucs with Twitter accounts. Twitter seems to be blowing up by the day so if you enjoy following your favorite players, check this link out.
John Romano of the St Pete Times lays into the ownership of the Bucs because of their lack of spending. He quotes a number from NFL.com that states that the Bucs have spent less in the last 5 years on player salaries and bonuses than any team in the league.
My friends over at BucStats lay into the Glazers even more with a little deeper analysis of John [...]
