Raheem Morris – “I Talked About Him Being My Jason Garrett, My Career Backup”

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: News | COMMENTS: 4 Comments |

For some reason I happened to miss this the other day, but as one of our readers has recently asked about the potential of Josh Johnson ever getting some first team run, I had to post these quotes up.

Raheem Morris on Josh Johnson

“I talked about him being my Jason Garrett, my career backup. . . You’re talking about preparing a guy who you think can be your long-term backup. You might as well put him in a game right now. That makes (him) prepare a little differently.”

Josh Johnson on Raheem Morris

“I can’t speak for the future honestly,” he added. “I can only look at right now, and right now I am a backup to Byron and I’m helping (Freeman) get ready for what he’s going to do in the future. I really don’t worry about it. If Coach says that, that’s fine. We’ll see what happens down the line.”

There you go P, that should answer your question!

As I understand it–may well be wrong–this is a very odd situation. Johnson is going to be–for the time being–the gameday active back-up QB, but Freeman is the “official” 2nd-string guy & will get the practice snaps during the week. How JJ is supposed to cope if he actually has to enter a game, I ken not.
This is another sign, if true, of how much this is a tacit rebuilding season.

Maybe Raheem meant something different, but if we’re supposed to take his words at face value, i do not like that statement. I can’t read your mind Raheem, all i know is if Lefty keeps playing the way he does, I’d like to see Josh Johnson get some snaps. D, do you think Josh Johnson would’ve been our starter if Gruden was still around?

  3. Mike J says:

Well, personally, I think if Jonboy was still in charge, Johnson would be the starter & Freeman would have been drafted top of Rd. 3.
Morris thinks Freeman is not just a good QB prospect, but a franchise quarterback. I don’t think he is right but hope he is.

  4. I agree with Mike 100% on this one P.
