Bucs Player Grades – Antonio Bryant

After an 83 catch, 1248 yard season, that saw Antonio Bryant eventually franchise tagged, there were big expectations for Bryant coming into the 2009 season.

The problem for Bryant in 09 though, was that he could never get fully healthy.  He was questionable for just about every game I can remember in the first half of the season, and even when he did get healthy, we didn’t have an offense capable of getting him the ball.

After 9 games in 2008 with 5+ catches, the most catches Bryant had in any game in 09 was 5.  He did that 3 times.  He eclipsed the 100 yard marker only once this past season.  He had 6 total games with 2 catches or less.

In total, Bryant played 13 games, caught 39 balls for 600 yards and 4 TD’s.  There might not have been a bigger offensive disappointment in 2009 than Bryant.

Final Grade – D

Pat Yasinskas, in NFC South ESPN chat today, said:”Mark my words, Bryant is gone.”

IIRC, there were concerns that once he made good money, the effort & determination might fade away.

    Your memory is correct Mike.
In regards to Yasinkas, I didn’t expect him to be back next season for us.
