Has Michael Clayton Been Cut Yet?

One of the guys that helped run Jon Gruden out of town might be in danger of getting run out of town himself.  Unlike Gruden though, who was done in by some crying from players, ala himself, Michael Clayton might get the heave because of his own sucktitude.

One of the first moves that Mark Dominik and Raheem Morris made when they took over control of the team last year was to re-up Michael Clayton to a contract that he didn’t/doesn’t deserve.   He rewarded them with a stellar 16 catch season.   In fact, Clayton hasn’t had more than 32 catches since his rookie season.  His similar players box on Football Reference (a chart used to show comparable players based on stats and years) reads the baller names of Eddie Bell, Derek Russell, Derrick Faggney, Elbert Dubenion, Karl Noonan and a bunch of other jamokes who you undoubtedly have never heard of.

With the drafting of both Mike Williams and Arrellious Benn in the 2010 draft, coupled with the stellar play of rookie receiver Sammie Stroughter in 2009, the Bucs would seem to have their core group of receivers locked up. With the obvious look to the future for this organization from a roster standpoint, wouldn’t a guy who is overpaid and sucks on top of his bloated contract be a likely target for release?

“He will make me better,” Benn said, “and I will make him better.”

“This is the perfect situation for both of us,” Williams said. “Him on one side and me on the other? It sounds good.”

Funny how two rookies are talking about Clayton’s sorry ass like he is already gone.

“He’s amazing,” said Williams, talking about Benn. “I see a big, strong receiver who can go down the field and catch the ball in traffic. And he has hands. I shook his hand the other day, and I said, ‘Wow, he’s got big hands.’ ”

“I’ve seen his drive, and I think he has the same drive I have,” said Benn, talking about Williams. “He’s a big receiver who can stretch the field. He can get open and be a big-play guy.”

I was tired of Clayton’s poor production when Gruden was here, hated how he helped get Gruden get run out of town, hated him signing a new contract with the team and most of all hated how he rewarded the team for that lofty contract.  Go away Michael Clayton.  Your time with the Bucs has passed.

P.S. Mark Dominik – please cut this bum.
