Offseason Workouts Update: June 7

(Updates are as recent as June 7, 2010)

  • Last week, Running Back Derrick Ward missed an entire set of workouts because of “dental problems”. Of course this isn’t a major problem in camp, but it is worth noting because of Ward’s current situation in the backfield. With Cadillac Williams holding down the #1 spot on the depth chart (as of now), Ward is battling for some time alongside Williams. His big play potential, though not displayed last season, will give him chances early on, but if he doesn’t step up in the early part of the season, he could be passed by second year back, Kareem Huggins.
  • Sticking to the offsensive side of things, Wide Receiver Sammi Stroughter was seen taking reps at both the outside and slot positions in workouts. The Oregon State grad scored his lone touchdown against the Green Bay Packers last season, but did show potential towards the middle part of the season to the end.
  • According to Steve Wyche of NFL.com regarding rookie receiver Mike Williams, the Buccaneers have “big plans for [Williams]“. The young talent has already received praise from nearly everyone at camp, and with all the pressure placed on him, it will be interesting to see how he handles himself throughout traning camp and into the preseason games.
