Van Pelt taught another young quarterback while in Buffalo, Trent Edwards, who completed 65% of his passes (not bad considering the talent around him after Lee Evans). Van Pelt has shown a great ability to work with young quarterbacks and help them transition from college game to the NFL game. Van Pelt has a very good young quarterback in Josh Freeman who has a stronger arm than Edwards did up in Buffalo. With Freeman’s arm strength and athletic ability, Van Pelt should be able to develop Freeman into a greater starter. He also has Johnson and Snead on the roster as well. Both back ups have talent and he will have to to develop them as well to help support Freeman in case of injury.
Van Pelt has youth and talent with his quarterbacks and will have to work closely with them in his first year as the team continues to learn and grow. Van Pelt should be able to turn Freeman into a great quarterback and help the offense become even better. He has a lot of work to do, but I believe he will be able to get the job done.
