We have all heard about the injury heard ’round the Bay, and we have now learned that Josh Freeman will be out for the remainder of the preseason, but will it affect him heading into the season?
The thumb injury seems minor, but it is something that might not go away anytime soon. However, he is lucky that only the tip of the thumb is broken, and not anything more then that, as that would be cause for concern.
“When I saw the X-ray and heard the word fracture, I was kind of freaking out. (Doctors) told me: ‘Hey, just take care of it, and it should just be a couple of weeks. When I heard that, it made me feel a lot better.”
The second-year quarterback is preparing to be ready for the season opener against the Cleveland Browns. But we’ve all seen players who struggle recovering from an injury, and with that said, a lot of pressure will be on Josh Johnson and Rudy Carpenter.
Now I’m not saying that either Johnson or Carpenter will be thrown into the heat of things on opening day, but there is a slim possibilty that one of them just may be the signal caller against the Browns. But for now, both of them will have the chance to get a lot of reps during the final two preseason games, and they will be competing for the #2 spot on the depth chart, and a possible opening day start if something goes wrong with Freeman’s recovery.
