If it wasn’t apparent to the Buccaneers before, it should be by now, the associated press doesn’t respect them. Not one bit. That’s why Raheem Morris was beat out by Bill Belichick for the AP coach of the year. And that’s why despite boasting two candidates for the award it was completely unsurprising that, collectively, those two received just four of the fifty votes.
Sam Bradford won the offensive rookie of the year award from the AP with 44 of 50 votes. Mike Williams finished second with four votes, the only other player receiving votes was Maurkice Pouncey who got got two. While Bradford had a very impressive rookie campaign, I can’t believe LeGarrette Blount didn’t receive a single vote.
Being an undrafted rookie who runs for 1,007 yards despite starting just seven games and helps to dramatically improve a rushing attack doesn’t even garner a single vote? Leading all rookies in rushing despite not getting picked isn’t worth consideration? LeGarrette Blount WAS the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. I’m not one bit shocked the AP didn’t see it that way, but I feel badly for the Bucs who had the rookie leaders in receiving AND rushing nominated and couldn’t even get ten percent of the vote between the two of them.
Congratulations to LeGarrette Blount and Mike Williams on great rookie season and screw the Associated Press. The AP ignored the youngest team in football (who won ten games) in favor of a QB who finished rated 25th in the NFL, behind stalwarts like Shaun Hill and Alex Smith. The Bucs and their fans have every right to be pissed.
