NFL.com columnist (and owner of a famous Tampa surname) Steve Wyche projected the risers and fallers for 2011 earlier and had some extremely positive things to say about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wyche listed five teams from this year’s playoffs that he thought would be unlikely to make it again next year (amongst them Atlanta), and five teams that were ready to make the leap into next year’s playoffs. Atop Wyche’s list was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The key to making it to the postseason is your quarterback and playmakers, and the Bucs are covered in both areas. Josh Freeman is a rising star, who, like Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers and New Orleans’ Drew Brees, has his entire team believing in him. Wide receivers Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn, along with tight end Kellen Winslow, form a tight nucleus. On defense, Cornerback Aqib Talib could be one of the best in the game if he decides he wants to be. If the Bucs can find some pass rushers and have tailback LeGarrette Blount stay focused and improve, they could end up being the best team in the NFL. Yeah, I said it.
Best team in the NFL? I like the sound of that! Obviously this is just projection and speculation, there may not even be a season next year, but it still sounds nice. And I happen to agree, I think the Bucs are going to do big things next season. It’s also funny to see both the Jets and Lions mentioned with quarterback concerns. They may not admit it publicly, but both those teams wish they had Josh Freeman. You can check out the full article by clicking the link above.
