While the information is still coming in, it is now know that former Buccaneers linebackers and current Bucs pro scouting coordinator, Shelton Quarles, was arrested early this morning on charges of driving under the influence. Without too many other details though, it’s already a given that unless the charges are dropped, that Quarles will most likely face some kind of league-sanctioned discipline.
There is precedent for members of a team’s front office to be suspended for such a charge, last year Roger Goodell suspended Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand for a month and fined him 100,000$ for his DUI arrest. Don’t look for Quarles to receive the same punishment, but I doubt this goes unnoticed either.
This is also particularly problematic because the Buccaneers have already been hearing whispers about how they’re an un-disciplined team and some commentators have even called Raheem Morris and enable. While I disagree with the last sentiment about Raheem it is worth nothing that the Bucs have had more than there share of trouble this year. Look for Mark Dominik to take a hardline approach to this issue for PR reasons. On the other hand, I wouldn’t look for the Bucs to jump the gun. As they learned with Mike Williams, it’s best to let these things play out legally first.
