I just wanted to take a break from covering the CBA to just focus on the horrible news coming out of Japan this morning. For those of you just waking up or turning on the news, Japan suffered at least an 8.4 magnitude earthquake last night (with some news services reporting as high 8.9). That was immediately followed by tsunami warnings, at least one of which has now struck the coast and is causing flooding across the northern farmlands.
Already reports have come in of hundreds of bodies being washed up along the coasts, potential damage to a nuclear power plants and literally billions of dollars in property damages. Beyond that though, this is going to profoundly affect Japan for several years and will certainly have a more global impact than just the 50 countries currently on tsunami-watch.
The point of this is two-fold. First of all whatever happens today with the CBA is meaningless in comparison to the devastation and human loss caused in the wake of this natural disaster. Second of all, Japan needs our prayers and support. I’m sure in the coming days you’ll see the Red Cross and a load of other charitable group begin their support efforts. I don’t make much, but I’ll certainly donate what I can. But for now, keep Japan in your thoughts and prayers. Even if you aren’t deeply religious or spritual, just keep the Japanese and the suffering they’re now enduring in your thoughts. This is a horrible tragedy.
