Without jumping to conclusions it’s not a good thing that Aqib Talib has been named a person of interest in a shooting in Texas. Now, no charges have been filed and they may not be at all. But if you believe the early reports it sounds as though after an altercation involving Talib and his sister’s boyfriend, Talib attempted to pistol-whip and then fire shots from his mother’s gun, at said boyfriend.
I don’t know what the fight was about, why Aqib Talib’s mother packs heat or anything along those lines. What I do know is that Roger Goodell is going to crack the whip hard on this one if and when a new CBA is in place. Talib has a history of unfortunate incidents and despite his seemingly good intentions, trouble seems to find him frequently. Earlier today Raheem Morris declined comment on the incident, I’m sure most people around the Bucs organization will until more of the facts come out.
Here is one thing to consider though, because of the current lock-out things will move slowly. The Bucs will need to be careful doing their own fact-finding so as not to get themselves in trouble. I doubt there is any resolution to this in the near future. But it is troubling as half of the Bucs talented secondary can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Tanard Jackson and Aqib Talib are both good players, especially Talib, but character concerns can absolutely wreak havoc on a team.
Fortunately the Bucs experienced life without Aqib for part of last season and went almost the whole year without Jackson. They are not indispensable. But, it would be nice if you could count on them to be around.
