Today that Tampa Bay Buccaneers found out their talented young corner Aqib Talib would indeed be indicted on charges of firing a gun at someone in Texas. There was hope that perhaps it wouldn’t even get that far, but it was announced this morning in Dallas that Talib will indeed be charged. The actual indictment means little, it’s just a formality that means the case will move forward. Talib has been free on 25,000 dollars bail since the end of March.
“The grand jury was not privy to a number of important facts,” Talib’s attorney, Jay Reisinger, said Friday in a statement. “We are very confident that once we have the opportunity to present all of the facts, this matter will be resolved in Mr. Talib’s favor.
“Aqib looks forward to putting this matter behind him and returning to the game of football.”
Now things will move to the trial phase, either way just by being charged formally I’m sure Roger Goodell will now have something to say about all of this in the form of a hefty fine and suspension. The Bucs have maintained they will wait until the case is decided before determining their own course. Hopefully Talib can get off entirely, a plea deal would not look good.
