When I took the reigns of this site in September of 2010 it was to take over a blog which had been failing to live up to the lofty standards of this, the FanSided Network. For the past 10 months it has been my goal to build one of the hardest working, and credible Buccaneers blogs on the internet. In that pursuit we have assembled a very knowledgeable and professional staff, we have increased the frequency of our content and we have refined the product so it was of the highest standard possible.
Last night we made a mistake and a writer posted an un-sourced article that took another journalist’s hard work and provided her with no credit for it. As soon as the issue came to my attention that post, as well as several others by the author, were removed from the site and we immediately issued an apology to the other party.
But I also want to apologize to you, the readers. The quality of our work has to be better, this kind of issue is not acceptable. While we have handled the staff issue in house, I felt it was necessary to comment on this issue after it was at least partially made public over twitter last night. Already this morning we have re-issued the site’s sourcing policy to all of our staff as a reminder as well as taken additional steps to try and prevent other similar issues from ever presenting themselves again.
I take a heck of a lot of pride in this site and I’m genuinely embarrassed to have had such an indiscretion potentially take away from the credibility and reputation we have worked so diligently to develop. You have my word as the editor that this will not be an issue again on this site and that we will continue to work to improve our product in every way possible in order to reach our goal of becoming the number one Buccaneers site on the internet. Thank you for your patronage and go Bucs!
