Getting Back to Business: NFL Timeline

So now that the lockout is over, how are things going to proceed over the next couple of weeks? Teams will have very little time to do several months of work in just a few weeks. Free agents need signing, draft picks need deals and everyone needs to get into their team facilities and start getting on the same page. What is the status of injuries that team officials haven’t been able to monitor since the lockout began. What are the legal of statuses of certain players, etc…

Here is the timeline of upcoming events on the NFL calendar according to ESPN.

Monday (7/25): Teams can go to 90-man rosters and the official free-agent list will be distributed to teams.

Tuesday (7/26): Trading begins. Teams can reach agreements with rookies and undrafted free agents starting at 10 AM. All signed players can enter team facilities.

Wednesday (7/27): Players can begin reporting to training camps 15 days before their first preseason games. This affects each team differently based on the scheduled start of their camp.

Thursday (7/28): Teams can begin to cut players.

Friday (7/27): As of 6PM all transactions may be officially filed with the NFL.

August 4th will be the proposed deadline for the NFLPA to recertify and once again become a union. We’ll keep you posted if anything changes. Stick around and we’ll break down the details of the new CBA later today.
