The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got more great news from their medical staff on Tuesday morning. After finding Arrelious Benn had made remarkable progress in the morning, the team also was able to pass Da’Quan Bowers on his physical and clear him for the start of camp. This may not seem like much, but it’s big news because it was never a given. But per Bay News 9’s Adam Kohler, Bowers is healthy and ready to play.
If healthy, Da’Quan Bowers will undoubtedly become the steal of the 2011 draft. He was once heralded as the top player in the country before concerns about the health of his knee became a vogue topic around draft circles and he plummeted to the second round. Bowers had played on a bad wheel all of 2010 before undergoing a seemingly routine surgical procedure that made everyone in the NFL suddenly become uneasy of his career prospects.
At first blush that may have been overblown though, because the Bucs have now examined the knee and found no reason to hold Bowers back. This means both Adrian Clayborn and Da’Quan Bowers should be ready to start the season healthy and on time and the Bucs D will be all the better for it. This is far from a full bill of good health, that won’t come until the pads go on and players actually begin flying around, but it’s a great sign. The Bucs must have Bowers healthy and contributing to accomplish their goals.
