Ahmad Black was cut Saturday.

Bucs Make a Number of Cuts

The Buccaneers have trimmed their roster to get below the league-mandated 53 man requirement. Among the most notable cuts of the day, Ahmad Black, Daniel Hardy and Rudy Carpenter. There were actually a few different decisions that were worth nothing.

Ahmad Black’s cut comes as a bit of a surprise because he was a fifth rounder and typically you at least wait a year to see if they’ll amount to anything. Gators fans will be particularly irritated, but the Bucs are clearly going off of merit and they’re taking the best 53 men. I’ve always read Ahmad Black was a gamer so I’m not sure if the Bucs won’t regret not hanging on to him, but it’s also very possible they’re looking to stash him on the practice squad too.

Clearly the Bucs were not impressed with their crop of tight ends. They opted to keep just two, Kellen Winslow and Luke Stocker, and we can assume they will begin trolling the waiver wire for a third option. Erik Lorig can play tight end some, but he’s not really seasoned there. The Bucs will bring someone in. I wish they had done that in free agency, they had a shot at several solid tight ends and didn’t go after any of them. Now they’re left looking. It’s not a dire situation, but given some Kellen Winslow’s injury history, it’s not wonderful either.
