We’re going to spend today recapping the Buccaneers win over the Atlanta Falcons but first a quick note on next Monday Night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. This morning Jim Irsay announced what many had suspected for a while, Peyton Manning is officially out for the season.
When this game first came out on the schedule it was undoubtedly viewed a lot differently. Peyton Manning could quarterback a JV team to respectability, but without him lining up under center the Colts many faults as a football team are on display. Right now Indy is 0-3 and ranked in the bottom five of the NFL for passing, points and total yardage.
That doesn’t mean the Colts are going to phone it in against the Bucs next Monday night, but it does mean this is now a team Tampa needs to put away. The Bucs have to win the games they’re expected to, this game just became one. There’s not any excuse to drop a game to this Colts squad, especially with Peyton Manning out. The Bucs could be looking at a 3-1 start to the season if they can take care of the Manning-less Colts. That would put this team right where it wants to be.
