TAMPA — The Bucs needed a huge win against the Saints to not only rebound from their horrible game last week, but to take over first place in the NFC South.
They got that game and it couldn’t have come in a bigger spot against a divisional opponent. Josh Freeman came out and led the Bucs back to the top with a performance that saw him throw over 300 yards for the first time this season and saw Earnest Graham, LeGarrette Blount’s replacement, rush for over 100 yards.
The defense for the Bucs came out and never let up on the Saints. Tampa trailed just once the entire game and that was in the first quarter. After Josh Freeman hit Arrelious Benn for 65 yards, Tampa never came down from the high that touchdown produced.
The Bucs also forced 4 Saints turnovers which ended up making the difference. Drew Brees threw 3 interceptions including a crucial one that came in the endzone with under four minutes to play in the game.
Tampa now not only rebounds mentally from their 45 point loss last week, but now have a half game lead over the Saints in the NFC South. Tampa will head off to London for a matchup against the Chicago Bears next week which will do all kinds of jet lag to their system. however, the outcome will hopefully be a little prettier then Tampa’s last long trip.
But for now the Bucs can relish in their victory that they earned. Tampa earned every bit of this victory over the Saints and earned the share of first place they now own.
