The Saints have shredded the Bucs in the first half and show no signs of slowing

TPP Halftime Report

Saints 17, Buccaneers 3

Welcome to the Pewter Plank Halftime Report powered by Fansided

The Buccaneers have first place on the line and are fresh off a bye but you’d be hard pressed to believe that given the way they’ve played up to this point.

The Saints jumped out to an early 14-0 lead powered by a devastating running attack that has seen Darren Sproles, Chris Ivory and Pierre Thomas shred the Bucs in the first half. If you’re having flashbacks to the 49ers game, you’re not too far off the point.

But the major issue has been the Bucs and their lack of readiness. They seem so unprepared for this game in every way. They have late substitution, they’re confused, they’re slow. Players are yelling at each other, they don’t know where to line up or if they’re even supposed to be on the field. It’s safe to say it’s a mess.

The Buccaneers have just a field goal to show for their terrible first half effort. The defense will be without Gerald McCoy who left with an arm injury and that puts them at two defensive tackles on roster. With Frank Okam out, the Bucs have only Roy Miller and Brian Price to plug the middle. The trouble there is Miller isn’t that great and Price is very injury prone and he’s tired. Price isn’t use to playing a full game because he simply hasn’t done it yet. That will aid the Saints running attack in burying the Bucs.

The score should be 28-3 as Drew Brees has thrown a few passes way over his receivers heads but those receivers just so happened to be wide open. Their last drive of the half was a omen of what they can do in the second half. Lost of gashing passes that will put the Bucs on their heels and open up the run game that already has over 100 yards collectively.

To put it simply: This game is ugly.

Halftime Adjustments

Tampa needs to throw out everything and start new. That’s all they can do. The Saints are gashing them in the run game and the Bucs have shown no signs of stopping them. Drew Brees is shredding the Bucs secondary and the Bucs are showing no signs of stopping him. If Tampa doesn’t stop acting like a pop warner team the Saints might put up another 62 points. The Bucs are playing THAT bad and it needs to change.
