Welcome to Super Bowl Sunday!

Ah the bittersweet, but much celebrated American secular holiday has arrived. It is Super Bowl Sunday! The day that we sit with friends, both die-hard fans and casual spectators, and enjoy the greatest spectacle in all of modern sports. Sure the World Cup is bigger and the World Series is older, but the Super Bowl is a one-off. A 60-minutes, winner take all match-up between the two conference champions.

It’s unlike anything else in sports.

But it’s bittersweet because it’s the end. The season is over, the games are done. Monday morning we awake to find a veritable sports oblivion in front of us. Pitchers and catchers don’t report for a couple weeks and after the early rush that spring training is starting up, the action doesn’t actually start until April. Basketball is going on, but let’s be honest it doesn’t really pick up until March. And what is hockey?

No this is it. This is football’s Mardi Gras (in its original spirit), it’s gorging on the best foods before a diet, basically, drink this one all in because it’s the last football we’ll see for a while…

But don’t fret, we’re going to try and fill the void here at The Pewter Plank, starting today.

Check back throughout the rest of the day, leading up to the game for updates and commentary. And then starting tomorrow we’ll kick it in to full on off-season mode with daily player profiles, scouting, team news and analysis.

So enjoy today, come back often and happy Super Bowl Sunday!
