The Buccaneers officially inked former Saints OG Carl Nicks on Wednesday morning, the deal is reportedly worth around 47.5 million for five years. Nicks will join the Buccaneers offensive line and along with Davin Joseph will form arguably the most talented duo of guards in the NFL.
The Bucs still have some needs, but their offensive line is looking solid right now. The speculative lineup will have Donald Penn at left tackle, Nicks at left guard, Jeremy Zuttah at Center, Joseph at right guard and Jeremy Trueblood as right tackle.
I’d still like to see the team upgrade over Penn, but at his current contract figure that’s unlikely. Still, this infusion of talent onto the line will definitely open up plenty of lanes for LeGarrette Blount and should keep Josh Freeman’s jersey a lot cleaner.
It’s also worth noting that the Bucs have reportedly signed all three of the players they targeted out of the gate. With nearly 40 million in cap space to spare the Bucs had the ability to be players and so far they have dramatically improved their team with three major signings. Vincent Jackson and Eric Wright will both start for Tampa, and along with Nicks the Bucs have now secured three of the most sought-after free agents on the market.
So far, so good.
