This year, trading card company Panini came up with an interesting idea this year. They gave some NFL rookies a blank sheet of paper and they told them to express their feelings through the magic of colors and shapes — and what we got was this year’s rookie cards from Panini.
The trading card company will be putting out more than just these versions of the rookie’s first year trading cards, but we also get these treats from the players. After instant review, it’s clear that they made the correct career choices in entering the NFL to make their living.
One of those rookies that Panini sat down was Bucs running back Doug Martin. Thanks to the folks at Panini, we are now blessed with these works of art:
And then there’s this one…
Okay, I’ll say it: Martin had better be a better running back than he is an artist. And is that blood on the swords in the second picture?! What kind of footballs does Martin use? Talk about attention to detail.
In all seriousness, this was an interesting experiment by the folks at Panini and we definitely got some gems out of it. Be sure to check out our piece on the main page of Fansided to see more of these masterpieces from this year’s rookie class. As for Doug Martin, there are only two of these in existence, so you’d better search hard and save up a pretty penny for these. A picture Andrew Luck drew went for over $1,500.
Be sure to bring your markers to Bucs games this year, Martin needs to be convinced to make these pictures his official autograph. Talk about revolutionizing the game. Could you imagine his bank checks?
But if you really want a drawing like Martin’s there’s always elementary schools you can visit. If at the very least, these drawings show Martin has a good sense of humor about himself which bodes well for the type of character leader he will be for this Bucs team moving forward.
