Buccaneers running back LeGarrette Blount has been cleared to play on Friday, but the question is should he? (Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE)
It’s been about a week since Bucs running back LeGarrette Blount left Tampa’s second preseason game with what turned out to be a mild groin injury. Blout sat out some practices but he appears ready to go for tomorrow’s third preseason game against the New England Patriots.
Blount took a handoff early in the second quarter of last Friday’s 30-7 loss to the Tennessee Titans but came up lame. He left the game and was further evaluated after, when it was discovered he had a slight groin strain. Blount stated that it wasn’t serious and Greg Schiano confirmed that not too long after.

Even though he’s been cleared to play, Blount likely won’t see much work given the fact he needs not prove himself more so than he has. Yes, there’s a running back battle brewing, but Greg Schiano isn’t going to sacrifice Blount’s body in a preseason game to see if he can perform up to his standards. This might be a time for Doug Martin to shine while Blount can recoup and get a majority of the carries next week.
But the bottom line is that Blount’s injury wasn’t that serious at all — at least the Bucs aren’t making it appear so. But let’s see how he does in practice next week rather than throwing him into a preseason game that means absolutely nothing.
