The Tampa Bay Buccaneers started out the day with a hot hand, and after a one play scoring drive to get things going, Doug Martin got in on the fun on the Bucs second drive of the game.
After driving almost the length of the field, Josh Freeman handed the ball off to the rookie from Boise State and the Muscle Hamster took it from there. There was one casualty on the play: Malcolm Jenkins. The Saints defender had a golden opportunity to stop Martin dead in his tracks but failed to do so thanks to Martin’s quick cut.
The Bucs traded back into the first round to get Martin and he’s yet to fully make people understand why Tampa did that. But the man they call Muscle Hamster is slowly starting to come into his own and his 36-yard dash to pay dirt is something Bucs fans will want to be seeing a lot of in the future.
Tampa may not be having a perfect day, but highlights like Martin’s solid production are the type of things keeping them in a shootout with Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints prolific and high powered offense.
