If you’re a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan waking up thinking you’ll find tons of breaking news about the Bucs free agent negotiations, I am sorry to disappoint. But there have been some wheelings and dealings overnight and into this morning, so let’s give a rundown of some of the action of the first unofficial night of free agency:

  • LeGarrette Blount has reportedly been re-signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to former agent and current journalist Joel Corry on Twitter. He was responding to a question posed about Blount’s salary being shown in an NFL salary cap database. Here is the tweet, and we’ll bring you more once there’s confirmation:
  • As our friends over at SideLion Report have reported, there are multiple teams showing interest in Lions’ big man Sammie Lee Hill. Hill is a massive defensive tackle who many experts believe is on the rise, but is stuck behind Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley on the depth chart in Detroit. The Buccaneers could very well be one of the teams speaking to Hill, as Roy Miller is unlikely to return, and Hill would be a significant upgrade over Miller as Gerald McCoy‘s partner in crime in the middle of the Buccaneer defense.
  • Our good friends at BoltBeat have passed along news about one of their free agents, defensive back Antoine Cason. He’s reportedly been contacted by multiple teams in this early free agent negotiation period, and the Buccaneers could very well be one of those teams. Cason really struggled in 2012, allowing 5 touchdowns and defending or intercepting a small total of 8 passes in his 1050 plays on the field. Two-thirds of the time that Cason was in coverage, he allowed his man to catch the football. This is a decline from some of Cason’s previous seasons, however, and many teams are likely interested in giving him a chance to reclaim his former successes.
  • Finally, fan favorite free agent target Sean Smith has reportedly already spoken with the Kansas City Chiefs, who it has since been reported are not interested in him. This is no surprise, as the Chiefs just signed Dunta Robinson. But has Smith spoken with other teams? Many rumors cite the Buccaneers are expressing an interest in the Miami cornerback, but nothing has been confirmed in terms of contact between Tampa Bay and Smith.

That’s it for this mornings’ update, we’ll bring you more as the day and weekend wears on. What do you think of the current buzz, Bucs fans? Especially the news about Blount? Leave a comment below and let us know.
