Yahoo!’s Jason Cole broke the news today that almost every Buccaneer fan has been waiting for:
Jets and Bucs have already agreed on the trade, Revis and Bucs have agreed on basic contract, deal should be finalized by tonight or Mon AM

Adam Schefter was reporting essentially the same news when he told us this:
Breakthrough: Jets have granted permission for CB Darrelle Revis to visit Tampa Bay and undergo a physical with the Buccanners, per sources.

So in other words, the trade is literally on the brink of being completed. The Buccaneers and Jets have come to terms, and it’s now time to fill out paperwork and call the league. Everything hinges on Darrelle Revis passing his physical, but if reports are to be believed, his recovery is going so well that this isn’t a concern.
Many news sources are saying the trade should be “finalized” by Sunday evening or sometime Monday. At that time, we may learn more about compensation for the trade and compensation for Revis in his new contract extension. Either way, it’s safe to assume the 13th pick in the draft is heading to the Big Apple, along with 15 million dollars per year over the next four to five years being contractually assigned to Mr. Revis.
This is obviously the defensive improvement Buccaneer fans have been waiting for. An elite cornerback to go along with the young, hard-hitting safeties already in place sets the Buccaneers up with one of the best defensive backfields in the league with just one trade. There is reason to be excited in the Bay Area this morning, but don’t get too far ahead of yourselves. There is still a chance this deal falls through, either due to Revis’ health or due to the Jets being the Jets.
If a trade does go through (and it should), how good do you believe this makes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
