Tweet: Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Danny Gorrer Out "4-6 Weeks" After Groin Surgery

Social media is a fantastic thing. It connects us with the world at the click of a mouse. It’s also how I came across this bit of news:

This is Danny Gorrer tweeting to former Bucs’ defensive back Brandon McDonald on Twitter. And it gives us the update we wanted on Gorrer’s status. (Although I should say, players and teams often have totally different timelines on player recovery from injury.)

The Buccaneers’ promising backup defensive back will be out over a month, but it’s unclear when the surgery actually took place. Worst case scenario, if the surgery happened this week, Gorrer would be able to return before the Buccaneers’ bye week.

Having Danny back in the fold will be a huge boost for the Buccaneers, because he is a key piece of depth for the defensive backfield. Greg Schiano said today that things are starting to get dicey in terms of defensive back depth, so Gorrer’s speedy and full recovery are critical.

But it will certainly hurt to miss him for the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots games at the beginning of the season, if those games fall within his recovery time. These are two teams with plenty of weapons on offense, and having Gorrer there to provide depth and experience would have been a massive help.

Hopefully Gorrer makes a full recovery, because with Anthony Gaitor already sidelined for the season, the Buccaneers can’t afford to have defensive backs standing on the sidelines with injuries.
