Tampa Bay Buccaneers Make Additional Roster Moves in "Second Draft" Including Releasing Underwood

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster is still in a state of change, as Mark Dominik and his team prepare the 53-man roster for the season ahead. Earlier today we learned of two players who were joining the Bucs, but that meant two players had to depart.

The Buccaneers made the moves official via the team’s Twitter account.

The main thing to note from this tweet is the position “WR” for Shepard, which means the versatile player will be brought in to play out wide in the Bucs’ offense.

It also explains the corresponding roster moves.

Last year’s third receiver Tiquan Underwood was let go in favor of Shepard, meaning the Buccaneers clearly prefer the upside of the young LSU product versus what they’ve seen for the past year out of Underwood.

The Buccaneers also let go of Najee Goode, a fifth round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft who showed some promising moments in the preseason. This move leaves the Buccaneers with only 5 linebackers, while adding a fourth defensive tackle in Jones.

It’s very interesting that the Buccaneers have kept Tim Wright and Peyton Hillis ahead of Underwood and Goode, but there is no reason to believe that the roster moves are over at this stage. We’ll bring you any further news as it is announced.
