NFC South Week 1 Standings: Saints the Lone Victors on Opening Weekend

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 0-1 after today’s disappointing loss to the New York Jets, but they aren’t alone in last place in the NFC South.

The Carolina Panthers lost 12-7 at home to the Seattle Seahawks, while in an NFC South battle the New Orleans Saints beat the Atlanta Falcons, 23-17.

NFC South Standings after Week 1:

1. New Orleans Saints – 1-0
2. Carolina Panthers – 0-1
3. Atlanta Falcons – 0-1
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 0-1

In Week 2, the Bucs will host the Saints in a crucial NFC South matchup, while the Falcons host the St. Louis Rams. The Panthers are on the road to take on the Buffalo Bills.

Week 2 Schedule (all times Eastern):

St. Louis Rams @ Atlanta Falcons – 1:00 p.m., Sunday, September 15th
Carolina Panthers @ Buffalo Bills – 1:00 p.m., Sunday, September 15th
New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 4:05 p.m., Sunday, September 15th

It’s hard to call a Week 2 game a must win, but in a 16 game regular season schedule, every game matters. The Bucs certainly need a win, not only to get their season rolling, but to make sure the Saints don’t pull away early, while the same could be said for the Falcons and Panthers, who like the Bucs, lost close games in Week 1.
