The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added a potentially explosive playmaker to the roster on Monday, and to do so they had to place a disappointing player on injured reserve with a somewhat unexpected injury.

As reported by Tom Krasniqi of 620 WDAE in Tampa, Luke Stocker has been placed on injured reserve, which made room for running back and return man Jeff Demps to join the roster.

Demps has very little recent football experience, but the Olympic track star has incredible quickness and is a talented return man. With the Buccaneers currently looking quite anemic on offense, Demps may be used in some creative ways to attempt to get things going.

He’s added to the roster at the expense of Luke Stocker, who moves to injured reserve and is done for the season. Stocker was a late addition to the injury report last week, and the team was forced to add Danny Noble to the active roster to cover for Stocker. There wasn’t much known about the injury at the time, but it appears now that it was quite serious.

Stocker was certainly a disappointment in the early days of this season, and he’s never panned out to be much of a talent at tight end. But it’s still unfortunate to see a player’s season come to an end, and it leaves his future with the team in doubt as he enters his final year on his rookie contract in 2014.
