So it’s official, the Josh Freeman era is over, and the Mike Glen… wait let’s just call it “the new era” has begun.
The new era will see Mike Glennon at the helm starting this Sunday against the Cardinals. But look around, listen to people, and scroll down your Twitter feed, just about everyone out there is talking about people like Teddy Bridgewater, Marcus Mariota, or any of these other high level college quarterbacks.
I’m not against the change at QB for the Buccaneers I just wish there was a
better different option than Mike Glennon.
Now, I have no idea how good this guy is going to wind up becoming. And there’s a true chance that he can be the answer and could turn this team around right now, but I really doubt it.
The fact is, the Buccaneers roster is chock full of talented players. Heck, there might be five or six Pro Bowlers on the roster (Revis, David, Goldson, Jackson, Martin, Foster, McCoy all are contenders). If they simply had someone to plug in at quarterback to just make all of the easy plays and not make mistakes, they can be a very competitive team. But putting in a rookie quarterback who every team passed on multiple times last year doesn’t seem like that guy. And it’s not fair to think he could be.
I wish there was a veteran who could come in and become the captain of this sinking ship. Unfortunately, there is not. So it’s Mike Glennon’s turn.
So this can really go in one of two ways. Either Glennon doesn’t stink and the franchise is on his shoulders, or he is what many of us think he is, and the Buccaneers are looking for a new QB, a new head coach, and a new general manager to put around a very good roster.
If there was someone else, there would be a clearer picture of the future of this franchise. Unfortunately there is not, and we are all at the mercy of Mike Glennon.
