There’s been way too much bad news surrounding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lately, so let’s turn our attention to a leader of the Bucs who’s having some fun and trying to brighten the mood at One Buc Place.
“I hope Mike Vick hears this. He’s done this to me the past two years. He gets hurt the week before I finally get to play against a guy I’ve been wanting to play against since I was a kid. So, Vick, if you hear this, I don’t like it. Not because I don’t like you, but because you get hurt the week before I finally get to play against you. You’re a great competitor and I would love to compete against you. But since you don’t want to play, I’ll talk about Nick Foles.’’
McCoy knows a thing or two about frustrating injury absences, so I am sure his playful joke to Vick is backed with a knowing feeling of disappointment that the Eagles’ QB can’t be on the field with his team this week.
But McCoy would go on to speak about Nick Foles, who will start for the Eagles on Sunday, and commented on his surprising athleticism and his “underrated” passing ability. He witnessed all of that first hand last season when Foles led the Eagles to victory against the Buccaneers, and says that it will be a tough test for the Bucs on Sunday.
Gerald and the defensive line will be key for the Buccaneers on Sunday, as they’ll have some unique opportunities to make decisions on read-option plays that they don’t normally have to make. They’ll also need to be well-rested and in top fitness, as they’ll be ran up and down the field by the tempo of the Philadelphia offense.
But for McCoy, it’s bittersweet that he won’t get to chase down Michael Vick. For McCoy’s teammates, it’s probably just a blessing to avoid the multi-talented quarterback.
