Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still searching for their first win of the season.
The Bucs were soundly beaten by the Carolina Panthers 31-13 on Thursday Night Football in front a very vocal Bucs crowd at Raymond James Stadium.
Boos rained down all night long on Bucs head coach Greg Schiano after another lifeless performance from his team.
Quite frankly, the Bucs were never in this game. Cam Newton tore the Bucs defense apart as he accounted for 276 total yards and three touchdowns.
Mike Glennon was nothing more than adequate as he completed 30 of 50 passes for 275 yards and a touchdown, althought the majority of that work was completed in fourth quarter garbage time.
The Bucs threw the football the entire second half as Mike James only carried the ball twice in the second half. He finished with 39 yards on 10 carries in his first NFL start.
Trailing 14-6 at half time, the Bucs felt they still had a shot. But it was put to bed quickly as the Panthers stretched their lead to 28-6 as the fourth quarter started.
The Bucs offense would move the ball reasonably well in the fourth quarter but with the Panthers playing off from their assignments, it wasn’t difficult for Glennon to pick up small gains on most plays.
The defense was left exhausted all night long as the Buccaneers couldn’t muster any sustained offensive drives and it showed. They were able to get some pressure on Newton and force him outside the pocket; however, they could not slow him down whatsoever and Newton was able to make plays with his arm or his legs at his own free will.
Lavonte David finished with 12 tackles and a sack as he continued his All-Pro form while Darrelle Revis limited Steve Smith to only 42 receiving yards on four catches.
Timothy Wright caught his first career touchdown pass towards the end of the fourth quarter in a rare bright spot for the Bucs who now drop to 0-7 this season and have lost 12 of their last 13 games dating back to last season.
