Mike James suffers fractured left ankle

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Mike James suffered a fractured left ankle during Monday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

James left the game in the first quarter after a three-yard rush to the Dolphins 1-yard line. The Bucs scored on the next play after Mike Glennon hit Donald Penn for a touchdown.

James had become the Buccaneers primary running back after Doug Martin went on injured reserve earlier in the week. With James out, Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey have taken over running back duties against the Dolphins.

The Bucs had seen James turn into a credible starter in Martin’s absence and he ran for 158 yards last week in the 27-24 OT loss to the Seattle Seahawks. In tonights game, he had picked up 41 yards on just five carries.

With James now likely done for the season, Greg Schiano is going to have to look elsewhere to find a new starter at running back for the second half of the season.
