The Carolina Panthers remain hot on the heels of the New Orleans Saints after both teams picked up impressive home wins.
The Panthers defeated the New England Patriots 27-24 on Monday Night Football, while the Saints beat the San Francisco 49ers 23-20 Sunday afternoon. The Panthers remain one game behind New Orleans.
In an NFC South matchup, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pounded the Atlanta Falcons 41-28 to move them into a tie for third place with Atlanta in the division.
NFC South Week 11 Standings:
1. New Orleans Saints – 8-2
2. Carolina Panthers – 7-3
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 2-8
4. Atlanta Falcons – 2-8
In week 12, an NFC South matchup gets primetime spotlight as the Falcons battle the Saints on Thursday Night Football.
The Bucs travel to Detroit to tackle the Lions, while the Panthers will be on the road against the Miami Dolphins.
Week 12 Schedule (all times Eastern):
New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons, 8:30 p.m., Thursday, November 21st
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Detroit Lions, 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 24th
Carolina Panthers @ Miami Dolphins, 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 24th
As it has been for a number of weeks now, the NFC South is a two team battle and neither the Saints or Panthers can afford slip ups with the standings so tight. Remember though, these two teams have yet to play each other this season.
The Bucs are no longer the worst team in the NFL after putting back-to-back wins together and are now tied with the Falcons in the division. Neither team is going anywhere this season so it’s about obtaining the highest draft pick down the stretch while also attempting to be as competitive as they can. It’s a precarious position to be in but one that a number of teams deal with each season.
