Report: Darrelle Revis Will Play Against the Carolina Panthers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will not be without their top cover corner on Sunday, as it’s being reported that Darrelle Revis will play despite a groin injury that limited him in practice all week.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter with the initial report.

As Schefter mentions, Revis will likely draw primary duties against Steve Smith, something that would have been difficult for Johnthan Banks if Revis were unable to go today. And instead of Leonard Johnson covering Brandon LaFell, that job will now be Banks’, who figures to be much more capable.

Without Revis, the Buccaneers were going to struggle to compete against the Panthers and their reliable offense. With Revis active, they at least have a decent grasp on the passing game, and must then turn their attention to containing Cam Newton and the running game, who may be without their starting tailback.

Williams is not an elite back, but he’s been a consistent contributor for the Panthers this season, and would be sorely missed if he can’t go today. We’ll provide injury updates and inactive lists for you as they become available.
