As Thursday Night Football approaches, many Buccaneer fans will tune in to watch the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars battle it out to in a matchup of two of the worst teams in the NFL. And unfortunately due to their record, the Buccaneers are in the mix with these two flailing franchises for the first pick in the draft and the dubious distinction of “worst team in the league.”
So that raises an important question: Can the Buccaners win another game? And if they can, will they?
Let’s consider the four opponents, and then give you a chance to chime in with your answer.
Buffalo Bills (at home): The Bills have a very talented group of pass rushers, and a mobile quarterback with two very capable running backs. They have some of the ingredients used to defeat the Buccaneers, and will pose a very tough task. Will the Bucs be able to bounce back from a disappointing loss on the road at Carolina and win this matchup?
San Francisco 49ers (at home): The 49ers are traveling from west to east, so this won’t be an easy game for them. But they have a clear talent advantage on the Buccaneers, and have multiple weapons on offense which can exploit the Buccaneers poor tackling and weaknesses in coverage. They also have a defense which will frustrate Mike Glennon and make life very hard on the rookie quarterback.
St. Louis Rams (on the road): The Rams have some of the best pass rushers you may have never heard of, but they otherwise lack on defense and have very little explosive talent on offense. But if they can run the football against the Buccaneers, they might control the game and keep the Bucs off the board on their home turf.
New Orleans Saints (on the road): Last season the Bucs were blown out at in New Orleans and put their playoff hopes to bed against the Saints. This season, they’ll likely face a Saints team battling for playoff positioning in a building where Drew Brees and Sean Payton rarely lose. The outlook isn’t very positive for this matchup, no matter how you look at it.
